Juan Caram, Bap architect, was invited to the Vitra Campus, published in Weil am Rhein, Germany. Each of the buildings was designed by renowned architects, of which we are fans: Zaha Hadid, Fank Gehry, Alvaro Siza and Herzog & de Meuron.
During the Milano Design Week we attended, Vitra complemented its exhibition stand at the Salone del Mobile fair with a large installation “Typecasting. An Assembly of Iconic, Forgotten and New Vitra Characters” in the old La Pelota fronton. The exhibition is curated by designer Robert Stadler..
The installation immersed visitors in history, the present and future of the Swiss furniture company. However, unusually, products were categorized by human attributes, more than for its function. The large installation revealed new connections, narrative threads, never-before-seen objects and brand design studies.
Comparing products with their owners as such, the installation strengthened the connection between product and user, as a result, highlighted many contemporary changes in society therefore, the continuing effects this has on furniture typologies. Visitors were able to view the expansive screen to understand and question the features of the nine groupings.
